The WCC Prowler Pantry was the first food pantry started in a college in the state of North Carolina. Upon its inception the average student age was 45 with many students returning for workforce development training. At that time the pantry offered food appropriate for families and households to fit the student population’s needs. At this time the student population is more that of a traditional college age group; however, the need for food remains the same. The pantry today offers “grab and go” options that students may access easily as a quick lunch, a snack between classes, or to take home for later. In addition, more substantial foods are offered to help with food for the weekend and evening meals. We recognize the importance of continued education and training and the WCC Prowler Pantry’s goal is to help students meet their food needs in the process.
