CareNetwork

Our History:

The Ashe Food Pantry was challenged by a grantor to find new ways of helping people beyond food assistance. This led to the creation of the CARE Network. Now in our fifth year of operation, we support approximately 120-150 clients annually with various needs such as electricity bills, fuel bills, wood, and emergency hotel stays. The process begins with the Ashe County Department of Social Services, where clients receive assistance in filling out a monthly budget and applying for food stamps (FNS). The application is then reviewed by the CARE Network, ensuring efficient budgeting, optimizing FNS benefits, utilizing all available food pantries in the county, and suggesting potential job opportunities that could be helpful.

Our Goals:

  • Help people in crisis: Provide immediate assistance for electricity and heating emergencies.
  • Promote financial stability: Teach budgeting and financial skills to empower individuals.
  • Collaborate with partners: Work together with other organizations to maximize support.
  • Raise awareness and advocate: Educate the public and advocate for change.
  • Improve services: Continuously evaluate and enhance programs.
  • Foster resilient communities: Build strong communities that can withstand challenges.
  • Job Assistance: Job referrals are made to those needing employment.
